2013 – 2014 Season: Sex and Sorcery
A season of intrigue. A season of sensuality and desire. A season of magic.
The 2012-2014 season marks Commedia Beauregard’s first full season as a resident company at the Raven Theatre in the Edgewater neighborhood of Chicago. We’re celebrating with an old favorite reinvented; a new adaptation of an all-time classic; and an amazing world premier translation of a special effects masterpiece! The world is our stage and it comes to our stage by way of plays from Italy and Spain. And, of course, we kick it all off with a show that is out of this world.
“Since we brought the company to Chicago in 2010,” says CommBeau Artistic Director Christopher Kidder Mostrom, “we have been exploring the alternative meanings of translation. This year we will be focusing on the type of shows that have traditionally driven our mission.”
Not to worry, though. The season still includes favorite projects like the Master Works Series. In Spring of 2014 the company will treat the paintings of Edgar Degas to dramatic translations.
“Machiavelli’s play [The Mandrake] is amazingly funny,” according to Kidder-Mostrom. “We have Lisa Cantwell at the helm of that show, and she’s bringing her mix of musicality and wit to a show that is a perfect fit for her approach.”
