CommBeau - Twin Cities

Incorporated in 2007 as a theater dedicated to the art of translation, Commedia Beauregard (in various incarnations) has made its home in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul, Minnesota, since January 2000.

Since adopting its mission of producing translated works, Commedia Beauregard has explored many facets of translation theory as it applies to the stage. We've commissioned new translations from Spanish and Czech; produced world & regional premiers of plays from Spain, Argentina, and Poland; hosted a Midwest Translation Festival; and created the only full-length play ever performed in the Klingon Language!

We also look at other ways to translate works for the stage. Our Master Works Series translates works of art to the stage. Two of our productions have translated Shakespeare's works for a more modern audience. We've partnered with a storyteller/musician who translated her tales into the universal language of music. And we've even co-produced a ballet that translated an essay by Nietsche into dance.

Commedia Beauregard presents its shows at the following locations:

  • People's Center Theater (Mainstage Productions)
  • Bryant-Lake Bowl Theater (Master Works Series)
  • Landmark Center (A Klingon Christmas Carol)

Commedia Beauregard is a proud participant in the IVEY Awards and a proud Member of Minnesota Playlist.
